In Earnest is a modernized version of Oscar Wilde's popular play, The Importance of Being Earnest. You may have read it in school, performed in the show, or seen the movie version starring Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Reese Witherspoon, and Dame Judi Dench. Our adaptation of Wilde's comedy is set in America in the state of Pennsylvania, and it takes place in the present day, beginning October 1st, 2014. 

 

Inspired by a mutual love of writing, the arts, and web series, we creators have put much care into weaving a story that combines modern reality with the whimsical nature of Wilde's work. Our adaptation also retains many elements of satire, though the objects of satire have been adapted from Victorian values to fit our modern culture. We have also worked hard to craft a series that deals with relationships after dating begins, addressing issues of honesty, commitment, trust, responsibility, mutual growth, hardship, and love.

 

In Earnest is conveyed through the video blogs of three of the primary characters. The story is supplemented by various forms of social media belonging to many of the characters.
